EACC youth wasted no time recovering from the summer of 2005 mission trip before taking off for Battle Creek, Michigan to participate with hundreds of other youth in the Peace Jam Slam.

Peace Jam is an international program that partners with Nobel Peace Laureates to educate and motivate youth. Their goal is to pass on the "spirit, skills, and wisdom" of Nobel Laureates and in so doing inspire a new generation of peacemakers.

This year's participants had the opportunity to listen to and meet with Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Our youth found the Archbishop to be surprisingly humorous and down-to-earth as well as sincerely interested in their lives and potential.

Meeting with Archbishop Desmond Tutu

In honor of Archbishop Tutu's work with AIDS in South Africa, participants spent the afternoon designing and creating new quilt squares to be added to the AIDS quilt on display in Washington DC. Before arriving in Washington, however, the finished squares will travel to various cities for display, arriving at EACC sometime in September!
